Manchester Building Society (MBS) rebranded by Sergeant Walnuts with a local map and chunky 'M' logo to represent Manchester.The rebranding aimed to give MBS a distinct identity rooted in its home city and differentiated from other banks.Sergeant Walnuts won the project by focusing on creating a brand that resonates with Mancunians.The new identity does not need to resemble the previous MBS look, which had low local recognition.Design elements were inspired by a simplified, colourful map of Greater Manchester.The chosen color palette allows for flexibility in representing different moods and demographics.The 'M' logo was designed to be modern, distinctive, and to offer a lot of space for the map representation.The wordmark uses the font 'inter' with a bespoke touch on the 'l' for legibility and accessibility.The new brand identity is set to be rolled out in physical branches across Greater Manchester.MBS plans to open flagship branches and create an authentic local representation through photography.
