Victoria’s State Emergency Services have rescued more than 20 people trapped in their vehicles near Hotham Heights due to heavy snowfall during Australia’s ski season.
SES unit volunteers from Bright and Falls Creek, along with Victoria Police, aided in the rescue operation following over 50cm of snowfall in the area.
Significant snowfall was also observed at other Australian ski fields like Thredo, Perisher, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller, and Falls Creek.
Travellers are advised to monitor road closures in alpine regions affected by heavy snowfall via VicTraffic website and comply with snow chain requirements.
The SES suggests reconsidering travel plans in areas impacted by heavy snowfall if necessary.
