Singapore will implement harsher penalties for speeding starting January 1, 2026, with increased demerit points and fines for offenders.
Drivers exceeding the speed limit by not more than 20 km/h will receive six demerit points, up from four. Those surpassing 20 km/h but not more than 30 km/h will incur eight points.
The demerit points further increase with speed, reaching 24 points for those speeding more than 40 km/h over the limit, resulting in a licence suspension.
Fines for speeding violations in Singapore range from SGD200 to SGD500 depending on the extent of the speed limit breach, with severe cases leading to court prosecution. Malaysia also enforces a demerit point system under Kejara with penalties for speeding offenses.
