Shoprite Group has announced that its Sixty60 app is expanding its range of products beyond groceries.
Now, larger general merchandise will be available too, including premium items like Apple products, vacuum cleaners, Sony products, and Smegs.
What's set to differentiate its offering from other e-commerce players is the ability to offer same-day delivery in a 60-minute window precision period.
To achieve this, the company has re-platformed its entire tech stack, including the customer app, on-demand management system, logistics piece and even the picking app.
The new service is available within a three-hour period of ordering and delivered via a bigger van used to handle orders from the group’s hypermarkets.
Additionally, it is offering a new range of products, featuring some 2,000 premium products for home delivery that is currently only being trialled in Cape Town.
Sixty60 currently operates in 550 stores.
The new service aims to bring this on-demand precision pledge towards its larger, traditional e-commerce offering.
The app has the ability to deliver bulk orders and heavier items like vacuum cleaners and has achieved remarkable delivery timings, even delivering an electric chainsaw in under 48 minutes from customer order.
This delivery platform idea has been deemed 'the craziest idea in the history of South African retailing', however, it has certainly proven itself a game-changer, with more than 94% of all orders arriving in under an hour.
