The Sun Rock, a solar panel-clad facility designed by MVRDV for Taipower in Taiwan, has topped out at the Changhua Coastal Industrial Park, symbolizing a blend of architecture and landscape.
The building's design optimally captures sunlight throughout the day with a rounded, domed silhouette that serves as an instrument calibrated to its solar-rich environment.
Featuring a pleated facade, the Sun Rock integrates over 4,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels angled for efficient energy generation, expected to produce close to one million kilowatt-hours of energy annually.
The building not only aims for self-sufficiency but also plans to contribute excess energy to the grid, reflecting its identity as both infrastructure and resource in Taiwan's renewable energy transition.
