Snap plans to release its first consumer pair of augmented-reality glasses, called 'Specs,' in 2026, beating competitor Meta Platforms by several months and Apple's upcoming smart glasses.
The new eyewear, Specs, will be a smaller and lighter version of the Spectacles available to software developers, running Snap OS and featuring hand gesture controls.
Specs won't require an external battery, focus on comfort and usability, and come in black initially, with potential for special editions. The price will be less than Apple's $3,499 Vision Pro headset.
The glasses will feature an artificial intelligence assistant, gaming capabilities, a 'workstation' for browsing and video streaming, and integration with AI models for features like translation, currency conversion, and recipe suggestions.
