Japanese conglomerate SoftBank Corp. has deployed a tethered drone system to aid in flood recovery efforts in Monzencho, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
The tether drone system uses RoF (Radio on Fiber) technology to establish communication between the ground and the drone.
The system can be set up within 30 minutes and provides a temporary mobile network service area for up to 4 days.
SoftBank aims to use this system in combination with other technologies for rapid restoration of service areas affected by natural disasters.
