Solar-wind tree based on 2-axis tracking

  • Scientists in India have developed a tree-shaped wind-solar system for off-grid applications, combining wind turbines and PV panels with two-axis trackers.
  • The system, named wind-solar hybrid tree (WSHT), includes a pole with a wind turbine on top and branches with two-axis solar trackers carrying PV panels.
  • A hardware-in-the-loop prototype of the system was built and tested, showing the ability to generate up to 444.5 Wh per day with the two-axis tracking system and 409.5 Wh per day with fixed solar panels.
  • The system aims to provide electricity for lighting loads, cell phones, household devices, laptops, and electric vehicles, offering a sustainable energy source for green or smart cities.
