Someone Installed a Head Gasket Upside Down on This Small Block V-8

  • GM has issued a recall for 6.2-liter L87 small-block V-8 engines built between 2021 and 2024 due to bad crankshafts and/or connecting rods.
  • A 2019 GMC Sierra Denali's engine was destroyed as a result of a human error, with the driver's side head gasket being installed upside down.
  • This led to catastrophic damage in the engine as the improperly installed gasket blocked coolant passages, causing severe cooling limitations and eventual failure.
  • Despite markings on the head gasket to prevent such errors, the engine continued to run until overheating, resulting in significant damage.
