GM has issued a recall for 6.2-liter L87 small-block V-8 engines built between 2021 and 2024 due to bad crankshafts and/or connecting rods.
A 2019 GMC Sierra Denali's engine was destroyed as a result of a human error, with the driver's side head gasket being installed upside down.
This led to catastrophic damage in the engine as the improperly installed gasket blocked coolant passages, causing severe cooling limitations and eventual failure.
Despite markings on the head gasket to prevent such errors, the engine continued to run until overheating, resulting in significant damage.
