South Africa’s parliamentary Speaker Thoko Didiza denied a request to debate allegations of police minister and officials interfering in an investigation into political assassinations.
Didiza has referred the claims to relevant committees for urgent consideration and a report back to the National Assembly.
The Democratic Alliance and ActionSA called for a debate on police corruption after Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi accused minister Senzo Mchunu of misconduct.
Parliament indicated that holding a debate would be premature as the allegations are currently unsubstantiated.
