The Worldcoin Foundation and Tools For Humanity have been fined 1.1 billion Korean won ($829,000) by South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) for privacy violations.
The fine comes after an investigation initiated in February over concerns of Worldcoin collecting sensitive biometric information in exchange for cryptocurrency.
Despite the fine, the value of Worldcoin's token (WLD) has increased by 35% during the week of the announcement.
Besides the fine, Worldcoin has been ordered by PIPC to make improvements and follow guidelines for better protection of user information.
