South Korea has temporarily suspended Chinese AI start-up DeepSeek from the country’s app stores, with regulators citing privacy concerns.
The Personal Information Protection Commission stated that the app will be re-introduced after improvements and remedies to ensure compliance with data protection laws.
DeepSeek became popular in South Korea and globally for its open-source AI models, but authorities have raised concerns over the data collected by the app being processed in China.
Several countries, including Australia, Taiwan, France, and Ireland, have banned or suspended DeepSeek's use due to privacy and national security considerations.
