Spotify introduces a new feature that shows how many times podcast episodes have been listened to or watched by users.
The new podcast metric called 'plays' allows users to see popular episodes, visible on various sections of the app and for creators on Spotify for Creators and Megaphone.
The aim is to encourage users to explore new podcasts based on popularity and provide creators insights into audience preferences for benchmarking performance.
Spotify's announcement of this feature comes after a gain of 5 million premium subscribers in the first quarter, bringing the total to 268 million, the second-highest total ever and the largest first-quarter increase since 2020.
