Spotify is working on an update for iPhone users in the US to purchase audiobooks through external links and allow Premium users to buy 'top-ups' for additional listening time.
This update is in response to a recent court order against Apple, where Spotify has already started allowing users to purchase subscriptions through external links.
The change would involve adding links and pricing info for audiobooks within the Spotify app, potentially leveling the playing field by offering basic pricing information and easy-to-access links without additional taxes imposed by Apple.
Despite Apple's attempts to appeal the court decision and halt the order, other apps like Kindle, Patreon, and Delta's emulator are also benefiting from the relaxed policies regarding external purchases.
