A sponge made from a fusion of cotton fibre and squid bone could help to clear some of the world's microplastic pollution.Researchers found that the sponge can soak up as much as 99.8 per cent of microplastic particles from water samples. The material's low cost and simple production process make it scalable for widespread use in cleaning up microplastics. The sponge could be used in various settings, including treating factory wastewater and as a filter in washing machines and dishwashers.
