Nissan is considering moving some of its Sentra production from Mexico to an underutilized plant in Mississippi, in response to tariff taxes imposed by the Trump administration.
The Mississippi plant currently produces the Frontier and Altima, with its production line running at half its full capacity. Shifting Sentra production to this plant could help address this issue.
Nissan's initial plans to utilize the production capacity for EVs have not materialized as expected due to slower growth in the EV market. Sedan production plans have been revised, with crossovers currently in development.
While Nissan may have space in the U.S. for Sentra production, potential challenges lie in ensuring a smooth transition for suppliers. The move could also impact the Sentra's sticker price, considering the differences in the cost of operations between the U.S. and Mexico.
