AMASA Estudio has completed the rehabilitation of a deteriorated public plaza at the UH INFONAVIT CTM Culhuacán housing development in Mexico City.
The intervention addressed spatial and maintenance challenges common to mid-20th-century housing typologies through programmatic clarity, material efficiency, and community-responsive design.
The redesigned public plaza features courts, a calisthenics area, a covered forum, a play area for children, and a running track, all integrated within the pedestrian paths and defined through community consultation.
The project optimized resources by standardizing materials, integrating permeable surfaces for rainwater infiltration, and prioritizing accessibility while re-establishing the public plaza as a usable civic space within the housing development.
