Sugar industry seeks a revision in ethanol price to address the dip in blending share, currently at 28%.
In a recent meeting at the PMO, the industry delegation led by Ravi Gupta highlighted the need for promoting Flex-Fuel Vehicles and increasing ethanol demand.
The industry achieved milestones in diverting sugar towards ethanol production, supplying 369 crore litres of ethanol in 2022-23, which accounted for 73% of total ethanol blended.
Due to stagnant ethanol procurement prices, ethanol production remains less profitable, leading to a decline in supply from sugar-based feedstocks and underutilization of India's ethanol production capacity.
