Sunil Kakkar, an employee at Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), will become the first Indian staff member to be nominated as a whole-time director on the company's board.
Kakkar's nomination was made by Suzuki Motor Corporation, the majority shareholder of MSIL. He will be designated as director of corporate planning.
Sunil Kakkar will be the sixth Indian representative on the board, which currently consists of four Indian independent directors, six Japanese directors, and the Chairman.
Kakkar, who has been with MSIL for over 34 years, has played a significant role in localizing supply chains and forming joint ventures for technological advancements.
