The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has declared that targeting EU citizens based on their political views is illegal. The decision came after the EU Commission was found guilty of illegally targeting citizens with ads using sensitive personal data. The targeted advertisement campaign by the Commission focused on raising awareness of the Child Sexual Abuse Regulation (CSAR) proposal. The EDPS decision aligns with a complaint filed by digital rights group Noyb, stating that the Commission breached GDPR rules.
