Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick adjusted the automotive tariff program, which many see as 'Tesla-friendly' while also encouraging other companies to source parts from the U.S.
Cars with at least 85 percent domestic content will face zero tariffs, benefitting U.S. automakers and offsetting the cost of imported parts.
Although currently only three vehicles, all Teslas, qualify for zero tariffs, other companies like Ford, Honda, Jeep, Chevrolet, GMC, and Volkswagen have vehicles close to meeting the 85 percent threshold.
To avoid tariffs, car manufacturers need to adjust components to increase domestic sourcing, promoting American manufacturing and employment under the Trump administration's strategy.
