Teenage Engineering has introduced the Choir, a quirky ensemble of eight handcrafted, linkable digital speakers in the form of charming, robotic wooden dolls with unique voices and personalities.
The Choir made its cinematic debut in Pixar's film Elio, adding a surreal element to the story as the dolls' voices play a significant role in encounters with alien life and defining the film's off-world environment.
Each Choir doll is made from beech wood, equipped with a compact speaker module, Bluetooth connectivity, and rechargeable battery, offering users up to four hours of continuous performance time.
Users can control the Choir dolls' choral pieces and create harmonies in real-time using BLE MIDI, with interaction features like tapping to start or stop music and tilting for volume adjustments. The design allows for solo performances or grouping up to sixteen dolls for a full a cappella experience.
