Tencent has hired WizardLM, a Microsoft AI research group led by Can Xu, which has joined Hunyuan, one of Tencent's AI development orgs.
Hunyuan, a part of Tencent, released AI models including video and 3D object generators with the recent release of Hunyuan-TurboS 0416, which outperformed models like Google's Gemma 3 series.
WizardLM, known for its competitive AI models, faced controversy when Microsoft pulled the model WizardLM-2 for failing to undergo toxicity testing.
Tencent plans to invest significantly in AI with 90 billion yuan ($12.49 billion) towards capital expenditures this year after attributing 8% year-over-year growth in Q1 2025 to its AI investments.
