Italy’s competition authority, Autorita Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM), has launched an investigation into Tesla, BYD, Stellantis, and Volkswagen for alleged unfair commercial practices.
The automakers are being investigated for potentially misleading customers about the performance of their electric vehicles, including EV driving range, battery capacity degradation, and limitations on standard battery warranties.
The companies' websites are accused of displaying generic and contradictory information regarding the driving range of their electric vehicles, without clarifying which factors impact the advertised maximum range and the actual range.
Italy's competition authority is conducting separate probes for each automaker, with inspections carried out at their Italian headquarters.
