Elon Musk's support for President Donald Trump has caused a divide in Tesla's appeal, with Democrats souring on the brand and Republicans warming to it, according to Stifel analysts.
Net favorability of Tesla among Democrats fell to -15% from 7% since February 2024, while among Republicans it rose to 27% from 11%.
The negative shift from Democrats and the positive shift from Republicans have impacted purchase consideration for Tesla vehicles.
Stifel analysts noted potential headwinds for Tesla, including Musk's role, competition in China, and a sales drop in the EU, which could indicate a shift in consumer preference.
