Tesla sales in Europe and the U.K. have fallen by nearly half, with a 49% year-over-year decline, despite the launch of a new Model Y vehicle.
The decline in Tesla sales is attributed to CEO Elon Musk's political activities and alignment with U.S. President Donald Trump, causing an outsized effect on the brand compared to its competitors.
While Tesla sales globally have been struggling, EV sales in Europe saw growth with a 27.8% increase in April compared to the previous year. Hybrids also experienced a 31% uptick in sales.
On the other hand, Chinese manufacturers like BYD are gaining ground in Europe, with EV registrations from Chinese automakers rising by 59% year on year, reaching almost 15,300 units in April.
