Tesla is set to open its first showroom and experience center in Mumbai on July 15, marking its official entry into the Indian market.
Tesla has imported vehicles, charging equipment, and merchandise worth approximately $1 million into India between January and June, showcasing an early-stage market entry strategy.
Despite India's high import duties of around 70%, Tesla has chosen to start its expansion in the country with imported cars, including Model Y variants and Superchargers.
Tesla has been actively hiring in India, filling key roles and continuing recruitment for positions like supply chain engineers and vehicle operators as it prepares for its market presence in the country.
