Cryptocurrency company Tether has condemned a report from The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that federal agencies are investigating the company for possible violations of sanctions and anti-money laundering (AML) rules.
Tether stated that the report is based on speculation and that the company has no knowledge of any such investigations into the company.
The WSJ reported that the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office is looking into whether Tether's cryptocurrency has been used for illegal activities or money laundering.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that the allegations in the article are false, and that Tether regularly works with law enforcement to prevent misuse of their stablecoin.
