Brooklyn-based ceramicist Devin Wilde frames creation as a line of inquiry, an homage to history, or an act of self-love.
Wilde's ceramics studio in Red Hook is inspired by architectural elements from different periods and follows postmodern tenets.
Wilde hand-builds his vessels using a mixture of clay and grog, and the exterior adornments are attached once the clay is 'leather-hard.'
His signature gesture includes exaggerated ribbing in high relief and light-catching metal oxide glazes in patinated copper, aged bronze, or rust-covered iron.
