A 256 kB ROM, merging Western ROMs with Japanese fonts, for the Apple MacIntosh Plus has been uncovered by Pierre Dandumont.
The ROM was considered mythical until Pierre found it on Japanese MacIntosh Plus mainboards and successfully dumped the two 128 kB EPROMs containing the ROM image.
The special ROM utilizes an extra address line through the Vpp pin across the two ROM sockets, allowing for 256 kB capacity.
The ROM image has been validated for use on real hardware and a modified MAME build, with upcoming support for MAME releases.
