Radhika Gupta, the CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Funds, predicts that higher education in the US will cost Rs 10 crore after 16 years, and she is saving accordingly for her 2-year-old son.
She explained the cost projection by factoring in inflation and currency depreciation, highlighting the need to consider these factors in financial planning for education and retirement.
According to Gupta, the current cost of higher education in the US is around Rs 2.5 crore. With an assumed inflation rate of 5% and currency depreciation rate of 4% over 16 years, the estimated cost would be Rs 9.9 crore.
Gupta suggested that investing Rs 1.6 lakh per month in SIP for 18 years can help accumulate a total capital of Rs 10 crore, considering a 12% expected annual return through compounding.
