The new gas-powered Jeep Compass will be offered exclusively with front-wheel drive, while the electric version will have all-wheel drive with a dual-motor setup producing 375 hp.
Jeep claims that the all-wheel-drive variant of the Compass uses a rear motor unique to Jeep and can climb a 20 percent slope even without front-wheel traction.
The electric Compass is powered by a 96-kWh battery pack, offering a range of 373 miles and supporting fast charging at up to 160 kW for a 20 to 80 percent charge in half an hour.
The Compass joins other Jeep models like the Wagoneer S in offering all-wheel drive exclusively in electric form, signaling a shift towards electric drivetrains in the lineup.
