Porsche's head of American product communications, Frank Wiesmann, confirmed that the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman models will cease production in October.
Sales of the Porsche 718 saw a 15% increase last year, but the model was discontinued in Europe leading to a drop in early 2025. Porsche is currently developing an electric 718, but the discontinuation of the traditional models will leave a gap in the lineup.
Porsche plans to introduce new internal combustion engines, including reworked V8s for models like the Cayenne and Panamera to comply with strict EU regulations. The absence of an entry-level gas sports car like the 718 could impact Porsche's sales in the short term.
