Rivian and Volkswagen Group have finalized a multi-billion-dollar joint venture to develop software, with Volkswagen investing up to $5.8 billion by 2027.
The joint venture, named Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies, aims to reduce development costs and scale new technologies more quickly.
The team will be based initially in Palo Alto, California, with additional sites planned for development in North America and Europe.
The joint venture will leverage Rivian's electrical architecture and software technology stack, enabling the launch of Rivian's R2 by 2026 and supporting the launch of the first models from Volkswagen Group by 2027.
