The Year in Google Cloud - 2024

  • Google Cloud made several significant announcements in 2024, related to fields such as AI, data analytics, model libraries, distributed system design, and high-performance computing.
  • In January, Google Cloud abolished data transfer fees for those moving data off their platform. The company also shared information about how to optimise data usage and AI adoption in this year.
  • February saw the emergence of impressive AI solutions such as local AI apps, specialised AI design patterns, and gen AI's impact on various industries.
  • Google Cloud announced 218 new offerings in April, with investment in gemini models and introducing Google Axion Processors, a new Arm-based CPU technology.
  • In May, Google Cloud took measures following a customer's problem, introduced Google Threat Intelligence to ensure critical security intelligence, and announced their sixth-gen TPU Trillium.
  • In August, Google Cloud revealed the BigQuery subscription model in the continuous query feature, which allows up-to-the-minute data insights.
  • September saw Google making it easier for customers to make sense of and use their business data with conversational analytics in Gemini in Looker, and contribution analysis models in BigQuery ML.
  • November was dedicated to Google Cloud product updates, including their new Trillium TPU for AI training and multi-factor authentication for effective AI strategy, and how to avoid common AI mistakes.
  • Google Cloud concluded the year by introducing new image and video generation models, such as Veo and Imagen 3, and their Agentspace program, in addition to their most capable AI model Gemini 2.0.
  • From offering data transfer fee waivers to emerging AI technologies and consulting businesses on their AI strategy, Google Cloud has had a momentous year, bringing AI not only to individual industries but also transforming business models as a whole.
