Nissan has a new sedan in the works, hinted at by recent patent filings with the World Intellectual Property Organization. The sedan features Nissan's latest design language and is likely to be an all-new Sentra or a revived Altima.
The patent images reveal an updated sedan with angular headlights and a distinctive slim light bar at the back, giving it a mid-size sedan appearance. Recent spy photos of a similar sedan prototype further support the design depicted in the patent.
The new sedan is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain, potentially utilizing a detuned version of the turbocharged 1.5-liter hybrid unit from the plug-in-hybrid Frontier model. This suggests a move towards hybrid technology rather than full EV.
While a production version of the new sedan may not debut until 2027 if it is a Sentra, there are rumors of a new Altima possibly arriving before the end of 2025. The shift towards hybrid powertrains reflects Nissan's evolving strategy amid a wider product lineup expansion in the coming years.
