Threads app could have been just a feature inside of Instagram, as shared by Instagram boss Adam Mosseri during Meta's antitrust trial.
Meta initially considered integrating Threads features into Instagram to compete with Twitter's text-first social media apps.
The decision to move Threads features out of Instagram was made internally as hosting text posts on Instagram could be confusing to users due to different models of engagement with replies.
Despite being separate, Threads remains closely tied to Instagram, requiring an Instagram account to use, and featuring posts in Instagram feeds that direct users to Threads.
