Over six lakh women in Tamil Nadu will receive training under the state's WESAFE Programme, aimed at increasing women's participation in the workforce and improving job quality.
The World Bank has approved a $150 million loan for the WESAFE Programme, with a maturity period of 25 years and a grace period of five years.
In addition to training women for careers, the programme will support 18,000 women entrepreneurs to start their own businesses and ensure safe workplaces, housing, and transport for women across the state.
Tamil Nadu aims to become a $1 trillion economy in five years, leveraging the strength of women through the WESAFE programme, with plans to design a Women’s Policy, draw investments, and provide financial assistance to enterprises led by women.
