The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has amended the 2008 rules to introduce a new formula for toll charges on national highways with structures like bridges, tunnels, flyovers, or elevated stretches.
Toll rates have been reduced by up to 50% on sections of National Highways with such structures, aiming to decrease travel costs for motorists.
The new toll calculation method involves adding ten times the length of structures to the highway section length or five times the total section length, with the charge based on the lesser length.
This amendment aims to lower toll charges on stretches with structures such as flyovers, underpasses, and tunnels by up to 50%, compared to the previous method which required users to pay ten times the toll per kilometer of structure.
