Top 10+ Companies In The World And Their Business Models

  • NVIDIA develops and sells GPUs for industries ranging from gaming, data centers, visualizations, and autonomous driving. Its revenue streams come from sales of GPUs, enterprise chips, and software tools for large enterprises. Apple’s business model is divided into product and service segments. In 2023, it generated over $383B in revenue. Online stores, including the App Store, iTunes Store etc., contributed over 40% of Amazon's revenue in 2023 while third-party seller services, AWS, subscriptions, and advertising were also major revenue streams. Google primarily makes money through advertising and generated over $175B from search ads, $31.51B from the network members, and $31.31B from YouTube ads in 2023. Airbnb utilizes a service fee model that charges guests between 5% and 15% service fees for reservations.
  • Microsoft's business model is diversified across its Office suite, cloud services (Azure), gaming (Xbox), enterprise (GitHub), search (Bing), and devices. Teaming up with Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Starlink, and others, Microsoft is pushing research and development of futuristic space-based cloud-gaming. Facebook, the main product of Meta, is mainly an advertising-based platform. In 2021, Meta generated revenues of $117.9B, of which $114.9B was from advertising. Netflix is a subscription-based streaming model, offering three plans to watch shows, movies, or series while Netflix Originals is a key competitive edge. TikTok's business model is attention-based social media, with a short-form video format that generated advertising revenues of $11B in 2022. Uber generates revenue through fees collected from gross bookings while Airbnb charges both guests and hosts on bookings at various rates.
  • Tesla's business model is vertically integrated, manufacturing its cars and batteries in-house and selling them directly through their stores. They are dominating the EV market with cutting-edge technology. Amazon has a diversified business model, including selling products online, third-party marketplace, physical stores, AWS cloud services, subscriptions, and advertising. It is also pushing its advertising business that features Echo smart speakers and advertising books. Subscriptions have been a key success at the firm as prime members spent almost twice as much as non-Prime customers in 2023.
