US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 10% unilateral tariff on BRICS countries for what he termed as 'Anti-American policies.'
BRICS, consisting of ten countries, are currently holding a leaders' summit in Brazil's Rio De Janeiro and are poised to adopt a position contradicting Trump on trade tariffs, conflicts in the Middle East, and global arms spending.
In a draft statement for the meeting, BRICS leaders expressed 'serious concerns' about unilateral tariff measures that distort trade and do not comply with WTO rules.
Trump has been vocal in criticizing BRICS members for possibly establishing an alternative financial system to the US dollar or coordinating economic policies that may challenge US dominance. However, several BRICS countries, including India, have denied aiming to de-dollarize their economies.
