President Trump's transportation department has decided to keep the Biden-era rule requiring automakers and tech companies to report crashes involving autonomous vehicles and driver-assist systems.
The rule, known as the standing general order, has been revised to remove reporting requirements for Level 2 driver-assist systems, benefiting Tesla.
Tesla has reported over 1,500 crashes since the implementation of the rule, with the company accounting for most fatal crashes under the rule.
The changes in the rule will result in less bad press for Tesla, reduced transparency for the public, and streamlined reporting for automated driving systems.
