President Donald Trump’s updated auto tariff policy is set to impact over $460 billion worth of vehicle and parts imports annually. The 25% tariff, effective from May 3, will be imposed on a wide range of components, including engines, transmissions, and lithium-ion batteries. The move is expected to result in higher costs, delayed model rollouts, and a possible reindustrialization of auto part manufacturing within the US.The Commerce Department will develop a process for domestic producers to petition for additional auto parts to be added to the tariff list.
