Leading chipmakers TSMC and Intel have slowed down their expansion efforts in Japan and Malaysia due to weak chip demand and economic uncertainty.
TSMC's Kumamoto plant in Japan, known for producing 28nm and 22nm chips, has decided to delay production of 16nm and 12nm chips until 2026 due to subdued demand for mature chips.
Intel's plan to build its largest advanced chip packaging factory in Malaysia has been delayed due to weak computer demand and the company's own financial difficulties.
