Taiwanese contract semiconductor manufacturer TSMC plans to invest an additional $100 billion in its US operations.
TSMC will build six new facilities in Arizona, including three chip fabrication plants, two advanced packaging plants and a major research and development centre.
The US government gave TSMC a $6.6 billion subsidy in November 2020, and the company's total US investment will now reach $165 billion.
TSMC's expansion is seen as a boost to national security as it brings chip manufacturing and innovation to the US.
