Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has introduced a new messaging app named Bitchat that operates without internet connectivity using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networking.
Bitchat allows encrypted, peer-to-peer messaging without the need for Wi-Fi, mobile data, or centralized servers and does not require user registration, email, or phone number.
The app utilizes Bluetooth Mesh Networking to form local clusters of devices within approximately 30 meters, enabling message relays as users move to transmit messages over greater distances.
Bitchat, currently available in beta via Apple’s TestFlight with a 10,000-user testing limit, focuses on battery optimization and reliability and aims to introduce Wi-Fi support for sharing richer content in its final release.
