The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Geophysical Institute has introduced an icing tower to improve drone flight safety in icy weather.
The tower will address the challenge of ice buildup on drone wings and rotors, which can severely impact aircraft performance and control.
The facility, designed by Coda Consulting, can create various types of calibrated icing conditions, allowing for precise control over testing scenarios.
The research conducted at the icing tower will contribute to the safety and reliability of unmanned aircraft systems in Arctic conditions.
