Uber and Lyft are reinvesting in driverless technology after abandoning driverless taxis.
Both companies plan to have driverless cars on their apps this year, with Uber partnering with Waymo and Lyft working with May Mobility.
Driverless fleets will be available for Uber customers in Austin and Atlanta, and for Lyft customers in Atlanta.
However, human-driven taxis will still be present, and driverless technology may not work well in densely populated markets or adverse weather conditions.
