The UK government has demanded that Apple creates a backdoor in its encrypted cloud service, challenging Apple's stance on user privacy.
The demand is made under the Investigatory Powers Act and applies to Apple's Advanced Data Protection service.
Apple has previously flagged concerns about the Act, stating it would not build a backdoor and would rather withdraw safety features from the UK market.
The multinational nature of the order may lead to a clash with the EU's agreement with the UK on the free flow of personal data.
