The UK may require an additional 92,000 public workers by 2030 if the decline in productivity persists, according to the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr).
A 0.3% decrease in public sector productivity was noted in 2024, following a 0.2% decrease in 2023, raising concerns about maintaining service levels.
Cebr calculated that to address the productivity shortfall, employing 92,000 workers would cost an additional £5.1bn.
Options to mitigate these challenges include boosting productivity through skill development or operational changes, as highlighted by Cebr, as the UK faces ongoing productivity struggles compared to other countries.
